The Manifesto

Written in one sitting, out loud

Everything downstream of this document is downstream of one belief: the people closest to the problem, given voice and a tool that keeps itself honest, will out-build any monolith that schedules their imagination for the next fiscal year.

The thesis of this moment in time

Voice can now drive the build to exactly what you need. Not a demo. Not a roadmap item. A working reality: speak while you build, and the harness captures the stream, ships the work, heals itself, and shows its receipts in public. This page — this whole grove — exists because that loop closed.

Who this is for

Four answers, from the manifesto verbatim in spirit: the misfits, the small businesses, the people inside the walls, and the kids.

The misfits & rebels

The people who like to challenge the status quo — not to burn things down, but because they can see the thing that should exist and cannot rest until it does. The ones who were told wrong place, wrong time, wrong age, wrong degree. The ones who kept showing up anyway.

The small businesses

Like the Fleckenstein family, rooted in Mokena, Illinois since 1977, who catered the celebrations around them for free because that is what good neighbors do. The world consolidated around them. Things are too monopolized. Bring the power back to the people. If this harness had existed when they needed it, they would have had it. That sentence is the business case.

The people inside the walls

For the ones inside the walls — who started at $14 an hour as a senior recruiting coordinator, navigated the hiring and firing storms of mass-hire warehouses, did the ethical work when a DC they helped run burned to the ground, and executed flawlessly private, all-sensory executive experiences in London. Nobody handed them a platform. They were the platform. This harness is for every associate like them: unseen, holding the standard.

The kids

For every kid — because they will fail, feel feelings, and hear things that don't make sense in a world moving this fast, and they deserve tools that tell them the truth, heal instead of blame, and give them the power to believe in themselves.

The craft, inherited

Precision is a learned love. David Beckham — obsessed over not because of fame but because of practice made visible: every free kick earned in repetition, precision beating anything. Traveling soccer was taken away by a coach who bullied — and the lesson stuck forever: talent behind cruelty is worthless, and the adults who allow it lose the kid.

Karate kept the flame: Ryukyu Kempo and Modern Arnis, the precision of kata, a bo-staff twirled on demo teams in malls, two stripes from black under the Dillman lineage, in a dojo run by a husband-and-wife team — a dojo that gave what every good tool should give: community, belonging, learning and growing together. The belts slowed down; the discipline didn't.

That is the design language of this harness: kata precision, practiced in public, taught with patience — or it doesn't ship.

The rules of the grove

  1. We make no enemies. Ever. Not the incumbents, not the giants, not the people inside systems doing their best inside bad incentives. We build the honest alternative and let it speak.
  2. Truth for truth's sake. No invented facts, no vanity metrics, no numbers that drift from the evidence. If a count can drift, compute it.
  3. Leave everything better than you found it. Including the tool itself: it checks its own pulse, upgrades itself, and reports plainly.
  4. The counsel gates everything. Upstream work, our own work — nothing passes until it is tried, true, secure, and would survive the Leather Apron Club's judgment. Manic, insecure, or risky does not pass. No exceptions for shiny.
  5. Voice is a first-class citizen. The dictation ledger (LIVING-UPDATES.md) is a primary engine, not a side channel. Speak, capture, curate, ship.
  6. Together we are better. Always. Upstream, downstream, inside the walls, outside them — the Junto is not a metaphor; it is the operating model.

What we are building

A living, breathing harness — grown from Code Puppy (with gratitude and an open line back), hardened here, healed here, taught here — that any person of any craft can pick up and be dangerous with in minutes. Not to replace the giants: to make their size irrelevant to the person with the problem and the voice to describe it.

The observatory shows the receipts. The ledger shows the decisions. The gates show the judgment. The self-heal shows the respect for your time.

Not tied to a single person

A manifesto written by one person could belong to that person. This one is built so it doesn't have to. The harness is engineered — and governed — to outlive its author's attendance.

Open lineage, open line back

The grove is grown from Code Puppy by Michael Pfaffenberger — credited here by name, in public, with gratitude. The heritage is a feature, not an embarrassment: anyone can read the upstream, diff the grove against it, and see exactly what changed and why.

Models are rented. The harness is owned.

OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Bedrock, a local model — any of them, swapped by changing one setting. No vendor owns the tool, and no individual's account, taste, or presence is a dependency. The harness is the asset, and it runs on your machine.

Seats, not names

Governance runs through the Leather Apron Council and the Wall: stewards hold seats — infrastructure, releases, roadmap — and on every public surface they are seats, not names. Contributions are judged by the work against the Gate, never by who signed them.

The receipts do not need the author in the room

The release observatory, the dictation ledger, the changelog, the parity seals and checksums — everything is computed and committed, not remembered. A stranger can verify every claim on this site without asking anyone anything.

Capability lives in plugins, not in people

Core stays small; features ship as plugins registered through public hooks. The next contributor adds a capability without touching the engine — and without asking the author's permission to be useful.

The ethos is versioned, not memorized

This manifesto lives in the repository next to the code it governs (MANIFESTO.md). Fork it, argue with it, better it — the argument is the point. That is what the Junto has always meant.

The source, unedited

This page is the manifesto rendered for the web. The original — dictated in one sitting, and kept true to the voice that spoke it — lives versioned in the repository. The signal is getting louder. Keep pushing. Keep growing.
